First Download The Free Game Eye of the Beholder:
Choose from one of the following sites.

Go To: http://www.dosbox.com > Downloads Tab > Click the Windows version (Under the Dosbox category)
Next: Run the downloaded installer file and install Dosbox on your hard drive in the directory C:\Games\Eye1. Simply entering this will create these folders for you.
Next: Open the Games folder then the Eye1 folder within it. Locate and then run Dosbox by double clicking on the Dosbox program icon.
Next: At the the command prompt in Dosbox type "config -writeconf dosbox.conf" and then press the "Enter" key.
Next: Type "exit" to exit Dosbox.
Now: Locate and right click on the Dosbox config file. Click "open with" & select notepad.
Finally: Scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:
mount c c:\games\eye1
c:
start
Save and exit the config file when you are finished.
Now Lets Extract the Eye of the Beholder Free Game Download:
First: Right click on the Eye of the Beholder game file you downloaded to your hard drive and click on "Extract All".
Then: Click the "Next" button when the extractor launches. You will be asked where you would like to extract the Eye of the Beholder game files, select "C:\Games\Eye1" . When you're done click "Next" again and the game files will begin to extract.
Ready, Configure, Play!:
First: Click on the Dosbox program in the Eye1 directory and the game Eye of the Beholder will begin. You will be asked to make a few configuration decisions before the game starts. The first is to choose your "graphics mode". Select the option "4. VGA" by pressing "4" on your keyboard.
Next: You will be asked to choose which "type of sound" card you wish to use. Select "1. Adlib or Sound Blaster" by pressing "1".
Finally: You will be asked if you wish to "use your mouse"? Choose yes by pressing "Y".

I have followed the directions to download and install dosbox, however when I run eye of the beholder and get to the password screen at the end of lvl 1 I am not able to enter anything. what gives?
if there is a response to the above comment I would like to know it cuz the same has happened to me. I get to the end of the 1st floor and a password comes up. When that happens I can do nothing. Plz help.
It has to do with the only DRM solution they had back in the day. What it's asking for is a specific word from a specific page from the manual. Hopefully you can find a PDF of the old manual.
