Installing Dosbox
Supaplex game folder

Now: Locate and right click on the Dosbox config file. Click "open with" & select notepad.

Editing the config file
Finally: With the dosbox config file open scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:

Next: In the config file scroll to the section titled [cpu]. In this section find the command "cycles=auto". Change this line to "cycles=3000". This number can be raised or lowered if you find the speed of the game to be too slow or fast (In increments of 100 or so).

Dosbox CPU cycles
Finally: Scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:

mount c c:\games\supaplex
c:
supaplex

Save and exit the config file when you are finished.

Now Lets Extract the Supaplex Free Game Download:

First: Right click on the Supaplex game file you downloaded to your hard drive and click on "Extract All".

Extracting the game file

Game extraction program

Puzzlicious!:

Double click on the Dosbox program in the "C:\Games\Supaplex" folder and Supaplex will launch. After the title screen there will be a line titled "Code" with a number next to it. You need to type this number to proceed to the game itself. In the example below you will see the number is 118. This number is generated randomly however so you need to type the one that shows up on your PC and not the one listed below (unless you happen to get the number 118).

Supaplex code
That's it enjoy the game!

Hi, if Windows doesn't have the option to extract the file I'd use a program such as Winzip. The error that you have is coming up because the file hasn't been extracted to the folder Dosbox is looking for it in. Once you extract the game zip file you should be all set.

Glenn

Hello, Thank you very much to share this awesome game. I can run it in windows vista without problems using DOSbox.

As you know, this game is really fast but unfortunately the keyboard response is not fast enough to play this game, I mean, when you press UP and LEFT really fast(for example), they are some delay between each pressing, do you think is possible to fix this? if not thanks same way =)

Hi Argenis, I have a guide with a bunch of quick ways to speed up Dosbox that might help.

Are you using wireless? I have signal problems with my Microsoft one sometimes but I think I found a good spot for the receiver and haven't had issues since.

Hi,i have been trying to get it to work on vista and i am having a couple of problems. When you save the free supaplex download on your computer mine just keeps saving into c: drive downloads file. doesnt matter where i ask it to go. Does it matter where it is downladed to? Is the reason why you have written c:games/supaplex becauce you assume that is where the game would be saved? does the dos program have to be saved into the acutal supaplex file.... PLease help me. Sorry about all the questions. email is babydoll_1661@hotmail.com cheers :o)

Glenn Scrima said...

Hi that's totally normal. Although you can save to the desktop the newer versions of Windows after XP save to the download folder by default. Either way it won't affect your download file in anyway you just need to find the file for extraction on a different area of your hard drive otherwise your all set.

Best,
Glenn

I think that rather than going through all of this you'd better find yourself an old 486 computer and play the game the way it was meant to ;) New computers just make life harder and harder...

Hey Glenn.

I've just downloaded the game Supaplex, and the dosbox.
It seems like everything went down allright, however, when I try to enter the code in the game, my mouse disappears form my screen. and alle i can do is call for joblist and then close the dosbox.
How come it wont allow me to type in the code?
What I did when trying to enter the code, was just clicking the ??? with my mouse, and then it disappeared from my screen, and I was unable to neither type the code enlisted, or move around the screen, tabbing or mousing, nothing works.
Really hope you can help me, I lost my patience when I tried runnig the game in Vista (now it's W7)
