Next Download & Install the Emulator Dosbox on Windows XP or Windows Vista:

Go To: http://www.dosbox.com > Downloads Tab > Click the Windows version (Under the Dosbox category)

Next: Run the downloaded installer file and install Dosbox on your hard drive in the directory C:\Games\GoldRush. Simply entering this will create these folders for you.

Next: Open the Games folder then the GoldRush folder within it. Locate and then run Dosbox by double clicking on the Dosbox program icon.

Next: At the the command prompt in Dosbox type "config -writeconf dosbox.conf" and then press the "Enter" key.

Next: Type "exit" to exit Dosbox.

Now: Locate and right click on the Dosbox config file. Click "open with" & select notepad.

Finally: With the dosbox config file open scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:

Abandonia: For those who downloaded the game from Abandonia copy and paste the following text:

mount c c:\games\goldrush
c:
cd goldrush
sierra

XTC Abandonware: For those who downloaded the game from XTC Abandonware copy and paste the following text:

mount c c:\games\goldrush
c:
sierra

Save and exit the config file when you are finished.


Now Lets Extract the Gold Rush Free Game Download:

First: Right click on the Gold Rush game file you downloaded to your hard drive and click on "Extract All".

Then: Click the "Next" button when the extractor launches. You will be asked where you would like to save the extracted files, select "C:\Games\GoldRush" . When you're done click "Next" again and the files will begin to extract.

Double click on the Dosbox program in the "C:\Games\GoldRush" folder and the game Gold Rush will launch, have fun!

ive had a couple of issues with goldrush,firstly unless you are on normal speed the clock doesn't go,and the game works on time,secondly upon getting so far it says out of memory and crashes, any fixes for me?

The clock "bug" actually seems very convenient - if the clock didn't stop, I could either do everything I need before the gold rush starts OR see everything. For example the epitaphs in the cemetary are interesting, but there's no way you could read it all in normal time (well, maybe it IS possible, but only during the game I discovered it's possible to reload the last command without typing).
However, I do have the memory problem and no idea how to solve it. I encountered it in the secret passage under Jake's cabin/outhouse and it seems I can't access debug in that place. Strange...
