I followed all the steps mentioned precisely above, I double clicked the dosbox in the games folder then in the following appeared within the Dosbox:

Z:\>SET BLASTER=A220 17 D1 H5 T6

Z:\>SET ULTRASND=240,3,3,5,5

Z:\>mount c c:\games\bmagic
Drive C is mounted as local directory c:\games\bmagic\

Z:\>c:

C:\>cd bmagic
Unable to change to: bmagic.

C:\>bam
Illegal command: bam.
------------------------------
And that was it, so the end result was me still not being able to play the game,
Do you think you can help me further?

Hi it looks like Dosbox is looking for the directory where Blood and Magic is installed and the game is not there. You will need to go back and extract the game file again and make sure you didn't accidentally mistype the destination or put it in the wrong directory. Make sure you type in the destination as C:\Games\Bmagic . I just did a reinstall of the game and it works so it looks like a mistake must have been made at that step.

Glenn

Thank you very much Glenn, for that issue I was able to get resolved but then another problem which stated in the DosBox:

Sound card initfailedC:\>

I thought initially maybe I did not select an audio device on the sound setup which I redid again to make sure but I don't think it has anything to do with this, since it still did not work.
Can shed any further light upon this issue? thanks

Hi Akaalis, the game shouldn't require any sound setup with the method above. If you changed sound settings in the sound setup .exe file this could have been the reason this issue came up. Also are you using the XTC Abandonware download or one from another site that requires this step?

Best,
Glenn

Hellow Glenn

Thanks for the reply.
I am not using any download at all.
What do I do if I am using software straight from a legitimate Interplay CD itself?

Glenn Scrima said...

Hi Akaalis, the CD-ROM version should work also but the mount commands in dosbox would be different. You will need to mount the CD-ROM drive and then do an install from it. I don't have a physical copy of the game so I can't say what they would be exactly but I have a guide that might help with getting this done.

Thank you very much again Glenn for your repeated replies

You said you don't know exactly-specificaly what to do being that you don't have the hard copy yourself,
What I want to know now, is what do I need to tell you so you would know what to do for my specific situation?

I did go to the link you provided which has enabled me to understand a little bit more about dosbox mounting, from this slightly hightened understanding I did everything possible to the best of my LIMITED...knowledge and basic template provided in that link typing all sorts of assorted-shit below the autoexec in the notepad but could not get anything to work.

(mind you)I have a ZERO!!... background in computer programming and if I was to be compared to you in that area, I would be classified as "Computer-Illiterate", I am just an average someone who has been attempting a very long-time to play this classic with no success.

So I ask you again Glenn what specifically am I required to tell you and how much do I need to tell you so I can get this classic running on my computer?

Please reply?
Thank you

Hi Akaalis, I can't give specific advice because I can't look over the files on the disc. However with that said I would say you will need to mount your CD-ROM to get started so you can view and execute these files in Dosbox. I would copy and use the command used in that guide changing the drive letter if your CD-ROM drive is a different letter. You would then need to know what file is either the setup file if the game needs to be installed or the file needed to run the game straight from the disc if it doesn't. This would likely be a .exe file. I wish I could give a simple answer for you other than to give some guidance and I realize how difficult it can be if you are new to Dosbox but I really can't do much unfortunately without a copy of the disc like I said to look at and test. I hope this helps and if anyone visiting the page has a copy of their own they are running please stop by and provide any details you can.

Best,
Glenn

(WOW)
Is this the longest conversation we've had an a "Comment Post" or what?

Tell me Glenn, do you think you could let me send you the content of the CD itself as an attacment via email?

Because at this point, I've already tried everything(which includes having mounted my drive) and have exhausted whatever miniscule entry-level and crude-rudimentry computer programming-ish knowledge which I've mastered so far.

So what do you say Glenn?
Could you allow me to do this?
(i just wanna play this damm game, thats all)

Hi Akaalis sorry it took this long to get back to you I've had a real busy past week. Anyway I think the only real solution would be to use the download. If you have any worries about legality you own a copy so there isn't any problem even if it wasn't abandonware. Copying the game from the CD probably wouldn't work because I'd be using mounting commands for those files on my hard drive and the game being unmodified by a site like XTC Abandonware to run straight off of the hard drive probably wouldn't work since it would be looking for the CD drive. I wish I could help you use your own copy but it really wouldn't be possible without me having a copy of my own.

Glenn

Games is working great aside from two issues. It won't load the cinematics before and after levels and campaigns. and, aside for the cheat for all research, the cheat codes don't work. could you help me with these? thanks

Hi Seth, some games have some of their video content removed on some abandonware sites due to a games large file size. I will be making an effort in the future to cover more download sites in my guides to give visitors more options. I don't have any knowledge of the cheat code issue but a site such as gamecheats.com might have additional info.

Glenn

Hello.
I did all the steps exactly as shown, but I get this whenever I run it with sound:
Error :Incorrect DMA/IRQ
at line 694, file SOUNDMGR.CPP

It would be awesome if you could help me fix this as I love this game and its sound effects. It works fine without any sound.
