Hi, despite running it in dosbox I keep getting the old not enough free memory message, any idea of what might be causing it?

Hello I used dosbox for bot AOTP and AOE And I used every dosbox setting you can think up. I did get it to play ok but never like it used to back in the day. But a couple of months ago I finally learned how to play both AOTP and AOE in windows XP.

Directions:
create a folder on C: called choice.
in the choice folder select create new text document Open it
and type this.

dos=high,umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
emm=ram
files=50
BUFFERS=20

now save file and rename it config.nt

next in the choice folder create new text document again open it and type this.

@echo off
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3

now save file and rename it autoexec.nt

now install VDMSound

now go to drive C: and create new text document open it and type

@echo off
dosdrv
cd WINDOWS\system32cmd.exe
cmd.exe

now save and rename it MYDOS.BAT

now to create a dos shortcut for your new windows dos with ems and soundblaster you will have to go to your game folder and select ACES.COM or AOE.COM and select send to desktop create shortcut then rename it MYDOS

Now at your desktop right click on your new MYDOS shortcut and select the program tab.
Now in the line called CMDline type in C:\MYDOS.BAT
Now in the line called WORKING type in C:\
Next while still under the program tab select advanced and check the box that says compatible timer hardware emulation. Next in the space called autoexec filename you need to put this in C:\choice\autoexec.nt
Next in the space Config Filename put in C:\choice\config.nt then select
select ok then apply at the bottom right to save your progress
Now you need to set your ems and xms, So Now select the Memory tab, and under Conventional Memory select Auto in the box marked Total, and select Auto in the Box marked Initial Environment, Now check the box called protected.
Next under EMS Memory Box Select or type 16384 for the EMS
Next Under XMS Memory Box Select or type 16384 for the XMS
Next Under the Box Called MS-DOS Protected-Mode (DPMI) Memory select or type 16384
Now hit apply again and then hit ok and now you are done

Now just click MYDOS in your desktop and
type cd\Games\APacific and hit enter and type aces
If its under the orig folder dynamix\aces you can type
type cd\dynamix\aces and hit enter and type aces

All you have to do is remember dos commands its not hard

Anyway if this worked for you it will run like it used to back in 1992 and aoe will run lke it did back in 1993

HAVE FUN
