Hi, are you using the copy from XTC Abandonware or one from another site?

When I right click on the dosbox.config file, I am not given the option "Open with"

Glenn Scrima said...

Hi, you can also choose "Edit" if that option is unavailable and select notepad as the program you want to use.

Best,
Glenn

I don't have an "Edit" option either.

the game works now. But no sound and the text is all unreadable. Not too worried about the sound but the text comes up in symbols of all shapes and sizes! Not sure how to fix this. Suggestions?

Hey I'm having troubles with the game. I was able to mount it successfully and load it but I can't control the mouse in the emulator.

Thanks for some advice.

P.S. For the people that don't have "Edit." Just "Open" the program and when it asks you which program to choose, choose Notepad

Hi, My problem is this. Where in the dosbox config fil do you paste your commands? do you delete the

"# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
# You can put your MOUNT lines here." and paste it in its place or simly paste after these sentences. when i open dosbox to play the game it just brings me to the scrn saying
Z:>

Thanks, Pete

Glenn, I know this is an older post but I tried to follow you directions and when I open dosbox it appears to mount correctly but does not open simcity. It gets to the point when it says C:/cd simcity and then C:/simcity but then it says simcity is an invalid command. Any advice?

LOVE IT now I can totally fry my poor old computer brain! I am 47 n been on computers for hmmmm well lets say my parents bought a Commador 64 and a Tandy just before I left home at 18. I have been in our family municipal accounting software business since the early 90's (before that we sold computers) and it is fun to find and play the old games. Remembering DOS prompts was like trying to access a file that is in your XP machine from years ago! I already am playing SimTower now I gotta find the old dos game Operation and the follow up The Brain. THANKS!!

Ok people I figured out how to play simcity. follow all of glenns instructions, but download the game from house of games only. (make sure you download the dos version of simcity) for whatever reason this is the only download version that worked for me. then, i went into my \games\simcity folder on my hard drive open the dosbox folder contained in the drive, and cut and pasted the contents of the dosbox folder directly within the contents of the simcity files. after that i doubleclicked on the dosbox program and mounted my c drive with "mount c c:\games\simcity. then type c:. after that your mounted c drive should be showing on dosbox. now type Autoexec and the game should load. hope this helps

i dont quite understand your solution. i still cant get it to work. typing in "autoexec" into the dosbox didnt solve the problem.

im getting "illegal command: sim city" in the dosbox when all instructions have been followed.

I'm getting the 'illegal command: simcity problem too. It mounts OK then says 'C:>cd simcity unable to change to: simcity' then 'illegal command: simcity' after following all instructions :S

It's fine, but I'm getting that DRM or whatever it is that I remember from way back in the day: "Enter population of city" using a series of block codes. Can't find the list anywhere. If I don't enter the code the game just spawns disasters continually.
