That's amazing, it works beautifully and flawlessly, and I've had a lot of trouble with this. The only issue is that there is no voice acting. Do you know where I can find a version with voice acting? Or, better yet, if there's a way to turn it on in the version that I downloaded (from your post)?

Same here, The game is awesome with sound and music which most of the other downloads I tried didnt have but still the voices dont work on this is there anyway to get them to? please reply to this because it would be wicked if i could hear these ridiculous voices from my childhood.

Hi, I think this was probably due to file size constraints. XTC Abandonware probably omitted the voice files because it would have made the zip file huge and put a large burden on their download server when people went to download them due to bandwidth constraints. I looked around and it seems of the major abandonware site is XTC Abandonware that has the game for download right now. You might want to try eBay also as the price may be cheap on a used copy. Sorry I couldn't of more help on this.

Best,
Glenn

hey glenn,

thanks for putting this online but i cant seem to get it to work. i followed instructions but when i launch DOSBox the game does not start up. In the black and white DOS screen im getting some errors. It says:

Z:\>mount c c:\games\kquest6
Drive C is mounted as local directory c:\games\kquest6\

Z:\>c:

C:\>cd kq6
Unable to change to: kq6.

C:\>sierra
Illegal command: sierra.

C:\>

thanks a lot i hope we get this figured out its such a great game!

Hi sorry for the delayed response. Did you download the game from XTC Abandonware or another site on the net? It sounds like Dosbox is looking for the kq6 folder and it's not there. You might want to try unzipping the game again and entering c:\games\kquest6 just to make sure you didn't mistype the destination by accident. I reinstalled the game using my instructions to make sure XTC isn't using a new file with a different file structure but everything went smoothly. Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Glenn

I'm having trouble on the step where I change the configuration information. It tells me the file can't be found.

I don't suppose it is possible to skip this step?

Are you referring to the config file for Dosbox or the game setup. You don't need to do any setup for the game itself but you need to enter the config settings for Dosbox. What step are you stuck on?

Hey I've finally managed to get the game installed and running!
Unfortunately there is no narration or voices .. and that was one of the best parts of the game! I have the music and the sound affects but no voices or narration. Does anyone know how I can correct this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, unfortunately most sites will remove these effects on games that are large in size to keep their servers from being overburdened. If you still have your old copy that can be run with Dosbox to. I have a guide on the site that shows the steps needed for this.

THANK YOU!! It took me about four hours to figure it out, but I did it. I originally bought the game about ten years ago and of course lost it. After hours of searching, I was tempted to just buy another copy. But, I found a link to your site. I'm so thrilled to be able to play it again! Thanks again for the help.

No problem, I felt the same way when I got the first of a bunch of games, The Pandora Directive, working back before I started the site. I got to hand it to the guys who created Dosbox it is a life saver to all of us classic gamers. Enjoy playing King's Quest 6 again!

Glenn

Here is how to get sound:

You can get sound by running install instead of sierra. install allows you to setup your hardware. here you can move to the voice sound area and select a working sound card format thing. Sound blaster should work for most people. Sadly, the only part of the floppy version that is voiced over is the opening cartoon. After that it's text. (according to wikipedia)

to get the narration you need the CD version that was release a few years later. If you can find this version, you should be able to mount it with DOS Box in a similar fashion.

Have fun!

Edit: by sound I mean voice over.
