Hi welcome to the site, what version of Windows are you using?

Thanks for your welcome! I am using Windows XP.

I open the Dosbox and get a window entitled:
DOSBox 0.72, Cpu Cycles: 3000, Frameskip 0, Program: DOSBOX

I am uncertain what to do here and also, how to close and exit - before I move on to the abandonia site.

Your help will be much appreciated being somewhat of a novice!

Hi Trevor welcome to the site. To exit dosbox just type exit and press enter and dosbox will close for you. Don't run dosbox quite yet though if you haven't downloaded the game. Make sure you open the dosbox config file (see details in the guide) and add the code I have. After that just follow the instruction on how to download and install the scrabble game in the folder you created with dosbox in it. Let me know if you run into trouble and be sure to check out the FAQ section at the end of the guide as there is some helpful guides there as well.
